Traditional Arts Fair
In celebration of The Year of Traditional Arts and Ecology, D Acres is hosting a one-day event that will bring the public and artisans together. The Traditional Arts Fair, scheduled for Saturday, September, 12, 2009, features demonstrations, workshops, and theatrical performances. Traditional arts include woodworking, ceramics, painting, glass work, blacksmithing, fiber arts, theater, music, and dance. The event will culminate in a called barn dance with Two Fiddles, Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman, sponsored in part by the N.H. State Council on the Arts. D Acres of N.H. is a nonprofit learning center that promotes sustainable practices through demonstrations, workshops, internships, and community events throughout the year. Thanks to Our Summer Interns
Special thanks to Christiane Ackerson and Caitlin Hart volunteer interns who worked with Arts Education Coordinator Catherine O'Brian this summer! Christiane Ackerson's internship was part of her studies in a doctor of arts in leadership, with a focus on women, leadership, and the arts, at Franklin Pierce University, Concord. She assisted with the New Hampshire Arts Education Data Project, the Fall Arts Education Partnership Conference and grants research. Her career goal is to utilize her leadership skills and experiences in education, business and the arts. She dreams of one day setting up a foundation to support the development of artists and their work.  

Caitlin Hart is a graduate of Oyster River High School in Durham, and a senior Tufts University, with a major in art history. She hopes to go to graduate school for a combined degree in art history, arts administration, and policy. She has a special interest in museum work and arts education. Caitlin volunteered one day a week. Projects she worked on included Extending the Dance Map - A Northern New England Dance Project; phone calls and data entry for the N.H. Arts Education Data Project; plus proofreading of traditional artists interviews (under the eye of Traditional Arts Coordinator Lynn Martin Graton).
